Overview of Fleisher Art Memorial: As the oldest tuition-free arts education program in the nation, Fleisher is both a community-based arts center and a regional presenter of contemporary art, fostering access to professional arts education, artistic excellence, and cultural exchange. Programs at the Fleisher Art Memorial are inspired by its founder, Samuel Fleisher, who over 100 years ago invited “the world to come learn art.” 

Fleisher’s Mission Statement: To make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.  

Fleisher Art Memorial offers classes including, but not limited to, the following areas of study: 

- Still life sketching & painting 

- Live model sketching & painting 

- Portrait sculpture 

- Mosaics 

- Darkroom photography 

- Digital photography 

- Ceramics 

- Jewelry 

- Lithography 

- Screen Printing 

- Collage and Papercutting 

- Digital Animation 

- Pastels, Watercolors, Charcoal 

 

At this time, we are not actively recruiting faculty or teaching artists. However, we welcome hearing from individuals who want to share their interest in teaching at Fleisher. If you are a practicing artist and/or arts educator interested in running classes or workshops that share your creative process and techniques with adults or children, please share the following details and as we recruit for positions, we will reach out to candidates that meet our criteria.

FLEISHER ART MEMORIAL FACULTY EXHIBITION 2024

For 126 years, the Annual Faculty Exhibition has celebrated the vibrant artwork created by our diverse and talented community of teaching artists. The exhibition provides our faculty the opportunity to showcase their work and in the process, promote their workshops and skills. We celebrate you and we thank you for being part of our mission of making art accessible to everyone. 

Artwork Drop Off: September 23-28

Exhibition: October 5th - November 8

Closing Reception: November 8

Who is eligible to submit? Fleisher faculty that taught between Fall 2023 and Fall 2024 are eligible to participate in the exhibition.

How many pieces can I submit? 1

How large can my piece be? Your artwork should not exceed 40" in any direction.

When can I submit? The week of September 23-28, 2024. Drop-off hours are the same as our lobby hours. To make this process easy on our staff, we ask you to clearly label your work with your name and title of the work.

Fleisher Art Memorial Gallery Loan Agreement:

GENERAL CONDITIONS GOVERNING LOANS 

  • Under this agreement Fleisher Art Memorial will exercise the same care and respect to loans as it does in safeguarding its own property of the same or similar nature. 
  • This loan agreement transfers no copyright of Artist/Lender unless specifically stated in this agreement. 
  • Unless otherwise noted in writing, the loan will be delivered and picked up at Fleisher Art Memorial physical address of 719 Catharine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19127. 
  • Work left at Fleisher after November 15, 2024 at 5PM, will cease to be insured by the Fleisher Art Memorial. 
  • Fleisher Art Memorial will cover this loan while it is in its possession under its fine arts insurance policy for the amount indicated against all risks, including theft and physical damage while on location during the period of this loan which extends from the drop off date September 23, 2024 through November 15, 2024. 
  • For works that have been industrially fabricated and can be replaced to the artist's specifications, Fleisher’s liability shall be limited to the cost of the replacement.  
  • Fleisher retains 30% of each sale.


 

DOCUMENTATION 

  • Fleisher Art Memorial may obtain photographs for catalogue and publicity purposes. 
  • Unless it is refused in writing, it is understood that this loan may be photographed and reproduced solely as permitted by Section 107 and 108 of the United States Copyright Law for publicity purposes connected with any distribution for educational use.
